Happy Anniversary to my favorite Belly Dancer and House Guest!!
Actually Donna is the ONLY Belly Dancer I have known (but she WAS GOOD in my living room)!! And Chuck is the only houseguest that brought me a bouquet of red roses when he arrived. A CLASSY COUPLE!!! Love you both; Congratulations!!!!
I remember your wedding when I was a young girl thinking how beautiful to have an array of pretty pastel bridesmaid’s dresses. I remember going to visit you in Iowa City with my parents and brothers when you were at Iowa. Then as I got married and moved to Story City I’d look forward to your visits to Story City when you’d come to visit Grandma. Then Steve and I took family vacations with our kids to Dallas and really enjoyed our time with you as our gracious hosts. It was always a joy to see you! I was closer in age to my uncle Chuck than my mom was as his sister.
Chuck and Donna — Fifty years!
That’s quite a milestone! We wish we could be with you to celebrate! We have been with you through most of these years — and they have filled us with memories that we share. So we are sending you our love with these anniversary wishes, and we look forward to the next time we can share a hug and a toast to these great memories and all the adventures ahead. Thank you for your treasured friendship. Happy Anniversary!!
It seems like yesterday when we were living next door and hard to believe so much tie has passed since then. Bob coming to your door meeting Donna for the first time and declaring “Oh, you are great with child!” Somehow you got past that and we made many great memories. Having margaritas while the kids swam in the pool, backyard barbecues, more margaritas, celebrating milestones and birthdays popping champagne and fourth of July fireworks, playing board games, and tennis and even traveling together to Hawaii and Little Palm Island and our last trip to Costa Rica. We had some great times! Some of them stand out in my mind: On our arrival home from a trip Bob and I found a statue of a little boy peeing in our pool!! Somehow we were left guessing who the culprit was, and though Chuck denied it, he was the only one with the opportunity and impishness to do it!!!!!!!!! It was a great idea and lots of laughs; even later it always made for a good giggle.
There was Bob’s 75th birthday party and we told him it was yours and we had it at our house and I sent him to your house to pick you up and bring you to “your” party and he came in and would not believe it wasn’t your party! I think you pointed out a sign our grand-kids were holding wishing him a happy birthday that he finally believed you.
There were fun evenings with you and the Bodles having dinner at each of our homes and visiting and catching up. Unfortunately Bob’s dementia caught up with him and most of it stopped. I was unable to find the pictures we took during those times except for two that I am attaching, I believe Bob in his fog disposed of a few boxes of photos and some other stuff when we moved last time. Still the memories remain and I will always cherish them and the great times we shared. You were the best next door neighbors ever!
Love you guys to the moon and back…
Dear Chuck & Donna,
WOW! Fifty years how can that be? I can’t imagine we are old enough for that to be true. Those were all “old folks” like friends of mom and dad who celebrated their Golden Anniversary…right? But since it is true, I must say we are so happy that you two are going to get to celebrate the day with your family. How can it get to be any better? Oh I know…If all your siblings could be there … right? But since we won’t be there in person, I’m going to spend a few minutes thinking back over the years and all the memories we have shared. Gratefully, almost all of them have been happy ones…and are the only ones to focus on now.
I wish I could put pictures with all of these memories, but sadly most of those are in photo albums or multiple boxes in Fl. Those pictures are before the time of digital pictures so I can’t scroll back through my camera and come up with them. I remember some weekends spent with Frank & Jean, Larry & Sandy, Lance & I, and you two. One Thanksgiving Lance & I flew from Mpls to DC and you guys drove through a snow storm … is that right? Larry ended up in the hospital with kidney stones!! Then there was the time we all met at Larry’s in Atlanta and Donna put on her belly dancing outfit and entertained us. Whoo Hoo!! Wish I had that picture!! I remember Larry was so upset that he didn’t have stereo on which to play the record you brought that he went out and bought new stereo system the next week. And Sandy was upset when Lance threw the beautiful white birch logs that she brought from Mpls (which were only supposed to be decorative) into the fire. Lots of fun memories. I’m sure there are many more that we could come up with if we were all together reminiscing!
One picture I would love to reproduce right now I will try to describe to you. It was taken that wonderful weekend (Thanksgiving, I think…and I was most thankful for your visit) you flew to visit me when I had moved in with Sylvia and her son Joel. The picture I’m remembering was of the two of you, maybe I’m in it also, on the boardwalk at Corkscrew Sanctuary. Then you reminded me recently about the thank you gift you sent to Sylvia because her knives were so dull and she called you to ask if you were trying to kill her cuz the new knives were so sharp!! She was always quit with the wit. I remember you telling us later that year, it was at that time you knew you were expecting Jessica. So that tells us exactly how long ago that was.
I remember I came to Dallas on a school break. It was the first I remember shopping at thrift and/or consignment stores. Also, Donna taught me about having acrylic nails put on at a nail salon. I have been hooked on both ever since. Think of the money I’ve saved on clothes, but spent on nails.
We have been so grateful for all the times you guys came to visit me in Florida over the years and then because you got hooked on SWFL, you bought your condo at Barefoot Beach. Also factored into that decision was Frank & Jean had now moved there too. We were all so happy you came to join us, if only for a few weeks each time. What a beautiful place that was! Then you became my golf partner in many tournaments over the years. Great fun.
Have a wonderful anniversary and many more years of happiness! Stay safe and stay healthy!
Lots of love and best wishes,
All my love to you for the happiness and laughs you’ve brought to our family over the past 50 years! It’s past so quickly.
I love you and wish you many more years of joy together! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY.
Happy Anniversary Chuck & Donna!
Congratulations on 50 years of wedding bliss. I have such fond memories of our families together when all of the kids were young, at the lake, on vacations, reunions, weddings and more! Cheers to more years of love and happiness!
Love,
Congrats to 50 years! You both are an inspiration to all of us! Happy Golden Anniversary! May you have many more years of happiness together. Sending a few pictures to remind you of some of the earlier years together 😘
All our love…
Chuck and Donna, Wishing you a Happy 50th!!
Your Golf Buddies,
PS Donna—we’ll try to get him out of the house more in the future!!
In the 70’s (before kids) Dan and I stopped to see and stay one night with Donna and Chuck on the way to Mississippi. We went out to a bar and “lo and behold” Jerry Jeff Walker was playing that night. Never forget “Home of the Armadillo”! We had a very fun time!
Congratulations, Donna and Chuck, on your wonderful journey side by side for 50 years.
May you have many more special memories to make together. Love you guys!
I just want to say congrats to my Aunt and Uncle on their milestone Anniversary! What an amazing example you two have been to so many people, including myself, of what a beautiful marriage should be like. I have always cherished your example, even from far away. I hope you two have a wonderful Anniversary, have many more years together and continue to grow in love and faith. Sending hugs, kisses and high fives from Atlanta, GA. I love you both very much!!!
The best photo I could find is a photo when your Dad and I were checking into a beautiful hotel in Mexico City, before an assignment. Loved working with your Dad, he gave me guidance, put up with me and most of all became a wonderful friend.
Used to love having gin martinis with him, until I became allergic to the Gin. So I still have a fill bottle of Blue Sapphire, that your Mom and Dad gave me for my 50th Birthday…LOL.
With lots of love to Donna and Chuck, CONGRATS on your 50th,
What a great accomplishment to make it to #50!
You are great role models for us on how to live a fun, hard-working, rewarding and God-driven life together. Think of all that you have accomplished together! Wow! And all the places you have been able to travel. And now more than ever, even the small moments sitting at home with Donna doing her crossword puzzles and Chuck watching the TV are so meaningful because it is time together.
Love you both and hope you have a wonderful celebration of your love and commitment to each other!
Lots of fond memories since 1986 when I hired on with Chuck at Tillinghast. He overworked me so much in the early days that Donna put me up in the spare room when it was too late to make the long drive to FW. I kind of liked being her third “child.” Many eventful projects over the years. I wonder if Chuck ever told Donna about the military coup we got caught up in while on assignment in Venezuela? And then there was Enron… bet he kept Donna awake filling her in on that drama.
Chuck, Donna, you are special people and Judy and I wish you all the best for the next 50 years together.
With kindest personal regards, we are,
Chuck and Donna,
Trish and I wish you both a very happy 50th anniversary. We understand the significance of this event as ours is going to take place in November of this year. I’ve included the picture of our trip together to the Baltics in 2011 with the Stones and the Reddy’s as it is reflective of all the friends you both have made over the years in both business and socially. We have been friends ever since we both sold our businesses to Towers Perrin in the late 80’s and coincidentally retired at the same time and enjoyed a nice retirement celebration together. Trish and I look forward to many more years of social activities with you guys and hopefully another trip or two like our Tauck adventure to the Baltic.
I believe this happened during the weekend that we all celebrated Grandma Lee’s 90th birthday in Story City. My family was at Deb and Steve’s house on Saturday or Sunday morning. I had been talking to Chuck, that morning, and I had told him about Luke always playing a game with the family recently, where he would hold his hands under the kitchen table and clap his hands. While he was clapping his hands, he would say, “Guess who’s clapping?!” Of course his brothers got sick of the game, because it was the same thing every time. That morning, when Luke came out to the kitchen for breakfast, Chuck held his hands under the table, and said, “Guess Who’s clapping?” Luke, who was extremely shy at that time, got the strangest look on his face and was very embarrassed. Of course the rest of my family thought it was hilarious to see the look on Luke’s face.
The other great memory I have of Chuck and Donna, is when my family went to Florida during the summer of 2011. Chuck and Donna had just recently purchased their condo right on the beach. My family stayed at Frank and Jean’s house for the week. On the Fourth of July, we all went to Chuck and Donna’s new place. We grilled out for the evening meal and my boys spent the entire afternoon and night in the ocean water, having a blast. We watched numerous Fourth of July fireworks celebrations from afar on the beach that night. It was a magical night and still a great memory for our family! I’m including a picture from that night. It’s one of my favorite pictures from any of our family vacations. In the picture, Luke is holding a starfish in his hands, and Payton is crouching down in the water with a hat on his head, while the sun is setting in the background.
This photo was taken at our 40th anniversary 20 years ago. They still look the same. No aging. They are like a bottle of wine, they get better with age. We have always considered them wonderful people and are thrilled to salute them for their 50th anniversary.
P.S. I do not know why they look sullen On this photo but they smile beautiful.
Dear Jessica and Ben,
Here are just a few of the many memories I have of your parents. I have many. Of course, I remember their wedding day. Your mother’s long veil with daisies along the fringe and Troy’s yellow suit I made for him as a ring bearer. It was a big event for us all.
I remember visiting your parents in their Chicago apartment on our way to D.C. Harold and Iola were with us. Then after they moved to Dallas we stayed with them in their apartment with the pool which the kids loved. Terry and I loved the nachos your mother made. They were new to us mid-westerners. Can’t forget the belly dance your mother did.
Of course we remember the fun we had at the house your parents rented for us along the beach at Fort Meyers. We had a great time.
Love,
Our family remembers when Chuck and Donna set up a tent for us at Lake McBride near Solon, Iowa one weekend. Chuck and Donna were living in Iowa City, Iowa as they were going to the University of Iowa. We had a great time until it rained and then we packed up to go home.
We spent one Spring Break in Chicago with Chuck and Donna. Chuck was working and Donna was going to nursing school. We spent all day sightseeing and having such a great time with them in the evening.
We went to see Chuck and Donna at many of their homes in Texas. One year we spent a lot of time in the pool with their family. They always made us feel like their home was like it was our home.
We were always happy when Chuck and Donna would let Jessica and Ben come to stay with Grandma Lee in Story City. Steve, Deb, Tyler and Jenny would get in on all of the activities that we would do while they were here.
Chuck and Donna rented a pink house for a month for Terry, Karen, Kenny and I on the beach in Bonita Beach, Florida. We had a very good time as we had many visitors including Vernon, Berniece, Larry and Sandy. We were treated like royalty even to the extent of getting the master bedroom on the main floor. We spent a nice two weeks at Chuck and Donna’s condo at Bear Foot Beach Bonita Beach, Florida. We have some wonderful memories because of their generosity.
Dear Chuck and Donna,
Wow! 50 years!!!
As I start this note to you, it is hard to think of where to begin. There have been so many times together and as far as I can remember, all really good times.
Starting with your wedding, just really getting to know you two. You both were young children. Can’t imagine now, after all this time even thinking of getting married that young. A different time. One incident that I recall at your wedding was that Julie and Robyn were with us. Both being young, in fact, Robyn being just barely a month old. I was nursing her and thought I had been well prepared with my bodily functions being a new mother, only to find out I wasn’t. My breasts starting leaking on my dress and I was not prepared for what should happen next. Frank was busy participating, which he was supposed to be doing and I think out of frustration I had all that I could do not to burst out crying. A helpless feeling. Oh well. It too passed, like everything else and life just moved on.
We miss the two of your coming to the beach and being together. Now that we are older we had time we had time to spend together without much interruption. I will cherish those times particularly because we were together. I love the beach, so the setting was perfect and usually a beautiful sunset. Again, it too passed and for now life is moving on. That setting might be gone but we look forward to the next time together wherever that might be and again to be together to special times.
I wish you many wonderful years together filled with fun times, family times, grandchildren times, and just the two of you times. You have been blessed and have much to be thankful for. May you continue to love each other and enjoy every minute you can for the rest of your lives.
Hugs and kisses,
Chuck and Donna, Congratulations on FIFTY YEARS of togetherness. “Who said it wouldn’t last!?!!!!”
Memories, I have many. Most of them after you two were married. Ten years difference in age doesn’t mean much today, but it did when you were young. When I graduated from high school and left for college you were only seven years old. When Jean and I left for Europe, you were only fifteen years old. I am so glad that we have had so many great times together as married brothers.
I do remember the times we went golfing in Florida when you were in Texas and me in Maryland. You were able to get to know some of my friends and we had so many good golf games together. Especially when Brent was with us. Both Brent and Greg were a little different than your ordinary expectations for a pastor.
Donna, I remember so well your belly dancing days. I gave you credit for dancing before the family back then and still do today. It was also fun to see Chuck’s face during the dance. He was so proud and impressed!
We miss your being in Florida during the winter. It was a great hang out place for both Sally, Mike and us. Both our daughters and families were able to enjoy some time together. We even had a sleep over a time or two. What fun. Why not come back and give it another go?
May the rest of your lives together be not only a gift to the two of you, but to all of us who get to share the moments of your life.
Love,
Share with Us!
